Trier is the oldest city of Germany bearing historical background and only 30 kilometres from Bitburg. It is an absolute must for every visitor of the Eifel. Everyone expecting a city with only ruins will be surprised to find out this is wrong. Trier is also called "little Rome"..

The Porta Nigra the former city gate was defended by its inhabitants. It is the emblem of the city and is 29 metres tall with a preserved Romanesque apse. While visiting the Porta Nigra you will soon feel the historical spirit and your imagination will take you back in time. Also fascinating are the Basilika (Roman imperial palace), the Kaiserthermen (Roman hot baths), the Dom (Roman catholic cathedral), the Amphitheatre (Roman arena), ... just to mention a few monuments. Nine monuments in Trier are declared as world heritage sites by UNESCO.
